"Like Dr. Verghese, we can all sit down on the porch one day and write a pioneering novel or article that will be published in an esteemed journal and, if we are lucky, that will happen right as our significant other leaves us or we realize that we have been too busy to find anyone to share our life with. That will fill the void, won't it?"

Title: “Fig. 389”
By Stephanie Benjamin
Acrylic paint on canvas
After being accepted to medical school my parents gave me a Gray’s Anatomy textbook from 1908, signed by the original physician who owned the book. While flipping through the old and worn pages I came across Figure 389- “The arch of the aorta and its branches”. My painting is based on that engraving. While working on this painting I thought about the original physician who owned the textbook and wondered what my own journey into medicine would bring.
